A couple of years ago I first saw a couple of screenshots for the next generation Legend of Zelda game. They were amazingly detailed, realistic high-fantasy style renderings. I thought to myself "Whoa, Nintendo is finally reaching out to the above age 12 game market." I figured I'd probably buy a game that looked like that. Fast forward to a year later when Nintendo announces that the ultra-cool looking Zelda game has been canned and replaced with a cell-shaded game. The game wouldn't be something cool like what Capcom does with cell shading, instead you get something like this. In the words of my buddy Timm, it is a bunch of ass. Who the heck wants to look at a game that looks like a really crappy american cartoon? I sure don't.
Nintendo has managed to keep their track record intact of never making a game I like. From Mario Bros. onwards there's never been a single Nintendo game I was willing to spend money on. If it wasn't for third party stuff I'd never have bought anything Nintendo. Actually I still haven't bought that much. I got my SNES used from my old roommate so I could play Street Fighter 2. I bought a Panasonic Gamecube because it looked so cool and for Resident Evil. I guess the only thing I really have that is actually from Nintendo is the memory cartridge for my Gamecube.
