I jogged into work today. I've been lazy due to my knee bothering me lately so have only been jogging in a couple of days per week. I was planning on jogging home but decided against it when I saw how much dirty laundry I had to bring home from the shower room at work. I remembered the annual REI anniversary sale and decided to walk there after work since I wasn't jogging. I picked up some stuff on sale and came out with a full sack of goods. The sky was mostly clear so I decided to just walk home.

Walking home was a mistake. The first three miles were fine if a bit disappointing. I thought the sun was going to come out but it didn't. After three miles things changed. The temperature dropped a bunch, and it started raining. This kind of sucked since my REI bag was paper. It wasn't raining too hard though. A couple of minutes later the skies ripped open and a flood of rain started coming down. It was a mighty chilly rain too. Tshirt and shorts plus a chilling wave of rain don't make for fun times when you are carrying a full paper sack.

I figured that it would be ok anyway. I'm used to the cold. Then about four blocks from home it started hailing. I thought the rain was cold. When it changes to hail and comes down just as hard as the rain was, then it gets quite a bit colder. It reminded me of times when I've been stuck outside in 35 degree winter rain storms or nasty snow storms with inadequate clothes. The bag started to rapidly disintegrate too. A monstrous lightning bolt ripped across the sky just in front of me followed by a roar of thunder less than a second later. It was like a massive explosion. Everyone I saw pretty much freaked. I was the only person who had been facing the right direction so was the only one prepared for the thunder.

I started running after first rearranging my load to hold the bag in spite of its disintegration. The hail was threatening to freeze me to death and cause catastrophic failure in the integrity of my bag. I got to the stoplight and of course had to wait an inordinate amount of time for it to change. I hate rush hour. No jay walking for me. Got home a few minutes later. The end.
